A child’s first day and first experience of school is a special and memorable time for both parents and children. At Yeo Moor Primary we feel very proud of the induction process that we offer our new Reception children.
The induction process begins in the Summer term before the children start school. Foundation Stage teachers visit the children and their key workers in their nursery/ pre-school settings.
Children are then offered several visits to school with the nursery/ pre-school staff and with their parents including stay and play sessions and a story afternoon.
In the summer term, the Foundation Stage staff also offer a new reception parents evening. The evening aims to provide parents with information about the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum that their child will be following and practical information about daily routines, uniform, school meals etc.
In September, teachers spend the first few days of term on home visits. These visits have been well received by families as it gives children, parents and staff an opportunity to meet again after the summer break. In the first few weeks,
children start school in two smaller groups and will either attend school in the morning or afternoon alternating each week so that they have experience of both the morning and afternoon sessions. Later in the first term, the children attend school full time.
In the first term, parents are invited to meet again with their child’s class teacher and discuss how their child has settled in the first few weeks.
